In 2017, Travers 2 Solar LP retained Matrix Solutions to support the environmental components of the Travers Solar Project in Vulcan County, Alberta. The project is being developed on approximately 1,350 hectares of agricultural land and will have a capacity of up to 465 MWac once fully operational (expected by end of 2022).
Resource Specialists Support for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project
Matrix began supporting construction of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP) in Spring 2019. TMEP is essentially a twinning of the existing 1,150-kilometre pipeline between Strathcona County (near Edmonton), Alberta and Burnaby, BC.
Mine Water and Selenium Management Plan
Matrix was engaged to design a water and selenium management program as part of a Feasibility Study and to complete baseline environmental monitoring and assessments to support the groundwater and surface water components of an EPEA application for the Tent Mountain open pit coal mine project.
WaterCharger Battery Energy Storage System – Environmental Assessment and Permitting
In 2021, TransAlta Corporation retained Matrix Solutions to support site selection and environmental assessment and permitting of the WaterCharger Battery Energy Storage System Project in Rocky View County, Alberta. The project is being developed on approximately 3.3 hectares of private land owned by TransAlta that are part of the existing Ghost Hydro-electric facility; and will have a total capacity of 180 megawatts (MW) once fully operational (expected by December 2023).
Environmental services for Keyera KAPS project
KAPS, a natural gas liquids (NGL) and condensate system, is a highly desired industry pipeline solution designed to integrate services, generate more volumes and expand commercial opportunities. All of which can benefit Alberta. KAPS creates a platform for future investment opportunities that could include additional gas and condensate processing investments, new NGL infrastructure or other value-added services
We routinely lead characterization of stream morphology to:
- Assess fluvial erosion hazards
- Develop alternatives for erosion control in environmental assessments
- Develop management strategies as part of land use planning (subwatershed, secondary, tertiary plans and site plans)
- Assist in culvert/bridge design
- Define erosion thresholds to inform stormwater management
