remediation

When remedial action is required for an impacted site, Matrix draws on nearly 40 years of experience as a leader in environmental engineering and remediation services across Canada. Our teams pride themselves on understanding client and stakeholder needs and protecting the public and the environment by implementing and integrating multi-disciplinary approaches for remediation. The end goal of moving every site to regulatory closure – efficiently and effectively.

Matrix has carried out remediation programs in a variety of landscapes including municipal and rural settings, agricultural lands, forested areas, and peatlands. We have implemented remediation programs on sites ranging from operational commercial and industrial facilities to inactive sites and brownfields to facilitate closure or redevelopment.

Our experience has involved remediation of petroleum hydrocarbon and salt contamination in soils and groundwater, along with other organic and inorganic contaminants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, glycols, methanol, nitrate, ammonia, sulfur, and sulfolane.

Remediation is one of the most costly and complicated steps in the contaminated site closure process. Not planning or executing remediation correctly can result in significant time delays, cost overruns, and reputational damage. We offer peace of mind by developing remedial options analysis (ROAs) and remedial action plans (RAPs) to efficiently screen technologies and develop an overall risk-based remediation strategy. This approach provides the information needed to make an informed decision about remediation solutions that are efficient, fit for purpose, and will ensure protection of receptors.

Matrix professionals draw on innovative technologies to improve performance and maximize the impact of the investment in remedial action.

We implement nature-based solutions where possible to enhance the natural degradation of organic compounds and minimize ecological disturbance. When it comes to applying remediation technologies, the mechanical aptitude of our practitioners improves the operational and performance results of in-situ remediation systems. Matrix practitioners apply their contaminant hydrogeology expertise to build off the conceptual site model (CSM) characteristics and apply appropriately tailored remedial technologies.

Environmental Support for Finch West Light Rail Transit Construction Project

The Finch West light rail transit (LRT) project will bring an additional 11 kilometers and 18 stops of public transit, while renewing aging infrastructure. The project aims to reduce travel and connection times and provide an economic boost for the community. The project is being delivered through a public-private partnership (P3) under Mosaic Transit Constructors General Partnership (Mosaic) and is owned by Metrolinx. Matrix has been working with Mosaic on several aspects of the project from the pre-construction phase and continues to support the project during construction activities.
