Matrix announces leadership changes in Water Resources team

Calgary, Alberta – Matrix Solutions Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of David (Dave) Van Vliet as senior vice president, Water Resources. Additionally, Michael Bender will be vice president operations, Western Surface Water, Water Resources and Martin (Marty) Bobyn is vice president operations, Western Hydrogeology. These changes coincide with the retirement of senior vice president, James Freeman.

David Van Vliet appointed as senior vice president, Water Services

Dave will take on the overall leadership of the Water Resources team as senior vice president and will continue as vice president operations for Eastern Water Resources. This change ensures the Water Resources team continues its growth in market share geographically and across industries. Dave joined Matrix in 2012 through the merger with AquaResource and has 25 years of experience in both the water resources engineering and hydrogeology aspects of our business.

Michael Bender appointed as vice president operations, Western Surface Water, Water Services

Michael has a tremendous amount of experience developing and leading surface water resources engineering projects in Western Canada and internationally. His insight as an industry leader and award-winning innovator gives us additional leadership strength in our Water Resources team. Michael’s experience is in river engineering, fish passage, culvert design, erosion control, mine water management, mine closure planning, drinking water source protection, water supply planning, drought preparedness, flood control, and watershed management.

Martin Bobyn appointed as vice president operations, Western Hydrogeology

Marty has served Matrix as a vice president of Water Resources for six years, which has included both the Hydrogeology and Surface Water teams. Marty is a principal environmental geoscientist with more than 25 years of diverse experience in geological, hydrogeological and environmental projects in Alberta and across western Canada. He’s been with Matrix for 10 years and will focus his efforts on the Western Hydrogeology team.

James Freeman retirement

As a founder at Matrix Solutions Inc., James has made great impacts to Matrix’s water resources business. He has held a variety of roles at Matrix since he founded Groundwater Solutions Ltd. in 1991 – one of the two original companies that merged to form Matrix in 1998. His contributions over the past 25 years as founder and leader of the company have helped build Matrix into the company it is today. James is transitioning out of his role as a senior vice president and active Matrix employee but will remain a member of the Matrix Board of Directors and shareholder.
