Our client needed to plan future mine operations to minimize the risk that groundwater inflow would impair mining activities and resource recovery.
Matrix was hired to develop a numerical model of groundwater flow to assess the potential inflow of highly saline water from Devonian aquifers through discrete faults. Matrix was responsible for incorporating our client’s geologic mapping into the model, compiling key data, reconstructing a numerical model previously developed for the area, recalibrating the numerical model, running forward predictions, and completing an uncertainty analysis.
In just eight weeks, Matrix completed the calibrated model that reflected our client’s geologic knowledge of the site and provided a good fit to both the steady-state and transient data. The model was used to support mine planning decisions and to help operate the mine in the most efficient manner possible.
